U.S. confirms 1st severe bird flu case, California declares state of emergency

 The US revealed its first Serious case of bird Flu on Wednesday. The case involved a Louisiana resident .California declared a state of emergency. This was done To confront the Rapid spread of the Bird flu.


Louisiana patient was hospitalized .He was in a critical condition. This was after Possible contact with an infected Backyard flock. The Information came from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) .The case was confirmed on Dec. 13. It is the first one in the US. It has a link to severe illness from the avian flu.


"This is the first case of H5N1 bird flu in the US.. It Has been linked to exposure to a backyard flock” confirmed CDC in A statement. .This statement was made when CDC confirmed the bird flu case.. In Another development California Gov .Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency. He Described it as a precautionary measure. The people of California hoped it would contain the virus spread.


To date California has not detected any person-toperson spread of the virus Most infected people Had some exposure to infected cattle as Per the statement..


“This proclamation is a targeted action. Its aim is to ensure that government agencies have sufficient resources. They also get The required flexibility Such measures would help respond Quickly to the ongoing outbreak We plan to build on California’s testing and monitoring system It is the largest In the nation. We are committed to further protecting public health .We plan to support the agriculture industry too. The aim is to ensure Californians get access To accurate and up-to-date information." This was said by Newsom in his statement.


Newsom provided information since April .He said that there   have been A total of 61 reported human cases   of H5N1 bird flu in the US. The virus has spread in 16 states among dairy cattle. This was after its First confirmed   detection in Texas and Kansas in March.


The CDC made a note of the bird Flu case in Louisiana. They underlined the ongoing Spread of the H5N1 avian influenza virus .Genome data supports this. It shows that the virus belongs to The D11 genotype This genotype has been linked To recent detections. The detections happened in wild birds and poultry ,across the US It also caused human cases in British Columbia.


Public Health Agency In Canada confirmed a human Case of bird flu .It was in a teenager. This Was on Nov .3. The bird flu was caused by influenza A (H5N1) virus. This teenager Marked the first domestically acquired case in Canada. The date was As of Nov. 25 the province reported. The teen remained in a critical condition.


Latest case in Louisiana has not changed the CDC's mind. They Still say   the risk to public health from H5N1 is low .The situation in the United States and Canada is the same too. Several outbreaks of bird flu have been Reported   on dairy farms in multiple states. However the virus has not been Detected on Dairy farms anywhere in  Canada.


There is Rarely human-to-human transmission of H5N1 .It is a strain of Highly pathogenic avian influenza. Experts have said that. They see no evidence of sustained transmission .In the US and also globally there have been cases. These human cases have a common factor. They All have had contact With infected birds farm animals or even wildlife.
